Due to the simple floor plan of this commercial structure, our crew did not experience any major challenges with this project. We can’t say enough good things about the people we worked with on this building who made our jobs easier!

The main challenge of this job was the tight radius wall that accentuates the front entrance to the home. This 3′ radius wall had to be hand constructed from 5′ radius block adapted into a 3′ radius curve and tied together with Fox Blocks HV Clips to be tight and sturdy.
We initially thought that because this was our first build with Fox Blocks it would be a challenge. However we soon realized the Fox Blocks ICF system was the strongest and easiest to work with out of all the previous systems we had used.

This project had two difficult cantilevered ICF walls: one above the kitchen and another over the entry way. The second story also had high rake walls for vaulted ceilings which can be difficult because sometimes the peaks can be upwards of 18-20′ when pouring the concrete core in the ICF forms.

Location was a challenge for getting material onsite. Each load of block had to be carted in with a small trailer. Also the grade beam detail was extremely complex and required a lot of structural steel in the top of the walls to hold the roof. On top of this, the rake in many of the walls made it difficult to install this steel.
Client: Steve Ririg
Location: Lompoc, CA
Surface Area: 12,297 sq. ft. of ICF Walls
Year Completed: 2013
Value: $205,180 of ICF walls

One challenge was pouring high walls up to 30+’ at a time. Scaffolding (instead of a scissor lift) had to be used to reach the outside of the walls as well as the inside which made strapping walls slower and more difficult.
