A composite steel-joist and concrete floor that integrates with ICF walls for durable, quiet multi-story construction.
The System
A Composite Floor Built to Work with ICF Walls
iSpan is a composite concrete floor system that pairs light-gauge steel joists with a steel deck and a thin reinforced concrete slab. Once the slab cures, steel and concrete act together as one structural floor.
Because the joists bear directly on ICF walls, the floor and wall assemblies tie together into a single concrete structure — a natural fit for multi-story ICF homes and commercial buildings.

How the System Works
From Bare Walls to a Finished Concrete Floor
1
Joists Set on the Walls
Light-gauge steel iSpan joists are placed across the span and bear on the ICF walls.
2
Deck Installed
A steel deck is fastened over the joists, forming the stay-in-place base for the slab.
3
Reinforcing Placed
Reinforcing steel is set over the deck and tied into the wall assembly.
4
Slab Poured
A thin concrete slab is poured; once cured, joists and concrete work compositely.
Key Benefits
Why Specify iSpan with ICF
01
Vibration-Controlled Performance
A stiff composite assembly helps limit bounce and vibration compared with conventional framed floors.
02
Continuous Composite Action
Steel joists and concrete slab are engineered to act together as a single structural member.
03
Reduced Cracking Above Joists
The joist and deck design supports the slab continuously, helping limit cracking over supports.
04
Efficient Three-Inch Slab
A thin concrete slab keeps the assembly lighter while still delivering a solid concrete floor.
05
Integrates with ICF Walls
Joists bear directly on ICF walls, tying floors and walls into one concrete structure.
06
Suited to Seismic Conditions
A tied-together concrete floor and wall system is well suited to Southern California seismic design.
Applications
Multi-Story Residential and Commercial Floors
iSpan is used wherever a durable concrete floor needs to span between ICF walls.
Custom ICF Homes
Upper floors and roof decks on multi-level residences.
Multi-Family Housing
Repeating floor plates in apartment and townhome buildings.
Commercial Buildings
Office, retail and mixed-use floors over ICF walls.
Community Facilities
